POOL VACUUM HEADS AND VACUUM HOSES: ESSENTIALS FOR A CLEAN POOL

NOTE: Not made to work on automatic suction type cleaners, (or robotic) pool cleaners. For proper suction and maximum performance, it is essential to prime the hose by filling entirely with water before use.

Before purchasing, please carefully measure the length of the hose you need.

Here is how to calculate the length of your pool vacuum hose.

A pool vacuum hose only needs to be long enough to extend from your skimmer/vacuum port to the furthest point in your swimming pool, while accounting for its depth. This way, you shouldn't have any trouble with twisting pipes when you remove the vacuum hose.

  • For smaller pools (up to 15 feet): You usually need a 25- to 30-foot hose
  • For mid-size pools (15 to 25 feet): You’ll need a 30 to 35-foot hose
  • For pools that are too big (25 feet or more): You will require a hose of 40 to 50 feet long

How to Vavuum an Above Ground Pool Without A Pump?

you can use a pool vacuum hose and head to siphon out your pool water dirt. It will take longer than using a pump, but this easy, DIY method means you won’t need to buy or rent any equipment. The easiest way to create a siphon is by submerging the entire pool vacuum hose underwater and then removing one end of the hose out of the pool.

  • Submerge the entire hose underwater in the pool. Hold both ends below the surface until the air bubbles stop. This means the hose is now full of water.
  • Place your hand over one end of the hose. While keeping that end covered, pull that end of the hose out of the water.
  • Place the end you’re holding on the ground at a lower level than the pool’s waterline. When you move your hand away, the water should start siphoning out. The hose on the outside of the pool needs to be lower than the water level in the pool. And make sure the end that’s in the water remains under the surface.
  • Connect an additional aluminum pool pole to start vacuum.

Keep in mind that your hose siphon will get slower and slower as the water level decreases.

FAQ for pool vacuum head with hose

Q: Do the pool vacuum hoses prevent tangling?

A: Yes, the kink-free design can helpfully prevent the hose from kinking while you are cleaning.

Q: What kind of pools can the pool vacuum head with hose used for?

A: For above-ground and in-ground pools, Measuring an ample 24 feet in length, this hose provides extensive reach, enabling thorough pool cleaning without the need for constant repositioning.

Q: How do you store the pool vacuum hose after using?

A: To maximize the lifespan of this pool vacuum hose, it is recommended to rinse it with fresh water after each use and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This simple care routine helps to maintain its flexibility and prevent degradation over time.

Q: Why is my pool vacuum hose not suctioning?

A: You should check that the hose is tightly fitted to the vacuum head. If that is alright then you check that it is correctly fitted at the skimmer or vacuum plate. If the hose is properly connected then it's possible that it's not properly purged of air.

Q: What setting do you put your pool filter on when vacuuming?

A: If you’re just doing a light debris vacuum, you can keep it on the “Filter” setting. But if your pool is really dirty, it’s best to put the filter on the “Waste” setting (not “Backwash”) to bypass the filter when vacuuming. The filter is now powerful enough to remove debris that quickly.

Q: Do you leave skimmer basket in when vacuuming pool?

A: You can keep the skimmer basket in place when vacuuming if you use a skim vac plate. Otherwise, remove the skimmer basket before attaching your vacuum hose to the skimmer inlet or if you’re using a vacuum plate. The skimmer basket will get in the way and won’t allow you to create good suction.

Q: When I vacuum my pool the dirt comes back in?

A: This is because your filter system isn’t powerful enough to filter debris that quickly. If you’re dealing with a lot of fine debris that’s passing through your filter, turn your filter setting to “Waste” and bypass the filter completely when you vacuum. Just be sure to fill with freshwater while you vacuum so the water level in your pool doesn’t get too low.
